George Cyphers holds a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Kent State University and a BA in psychology from Thiel College. He is now retired from practice. He is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. He formerly held an Ohio license as Licensed Professional Counselor and a certificate as a Disability Management Specialist. Mr. Cyphers worked as an independent consultant on matters of disability accommodation, clinical practice and continuing professional education. A nationally recognized expert on catastrophic disability and its effect on employability and long-term care needs; George has over 46 years of professional experience as a Rehabilitation Counselor, Rehabilitation Case Manager and as a testifying expert in disability matters. His testimony was admitted in multiple Federal jurisdictions as well as in fourteen states regarding employability, loss of wage earning capacity and life care planning in cases involving persons with severe and chronic disabilities. Mr. Cyphers’ experience includes working in the public, private nonprofit, and proprietary rehabilitation sectors. Mr. Cyphers was first appointed to the Rehabilitation Counselor Education Advisory Committee at Kent State University in 1983. He served as an instructor in the Rehabilitation Counselor Education program at Kent State University from 2000-2014. He has been an invited lecturer by local, state and national chapters of rehabilitation and allied professional organizations on subjects ranging from clinical practice and professional ethics to medical/legal applications of rehabilitation philosophy and principles.
