Dotty Grexa began her professional career with a national fabric and craft chain as a part-time sales associate in her hometown of Barberton, Ohio. For 26 years, Dotty assumed various roles of increased responsibility, including Store Manager, Assistant Buyer, Buyer, Divisional and VP, and General Merchandise Manager of the $1B sewing division.
After leaving the ‘for-profit’ sector, her efforts were redirected towards a local non-profit serving people with developmental disabilities. In this role, her mission was to open local social enterprises in the community, primarily focused on providing work skills training to adults with various disabilities. Over her 10-year tenure, 11 vocational cafes were developed, as well as 3 doggie daycares, an organic farming operation, a vending company, a food hub, and other training venues.
Although officially ‘retired’, Dotty is currently volunteering part-time for her church as an Assistant to the Pastor.
Her service to the community includes working with the Summit Food Coalition, Summit County Historical Society, and partnerships with the Akron Zoo and Old Trail School, among others. She has served on the Boards of the Home Sewing Association, ACCI, and Redeemer Lutheran Church. She received the YWCA’s Women of Distinction Award in 2005.
She has been married for 30+ years to Paul, and they share their home with their golden retriever, Matt.
