Why did you choose to serve on the WLLC board?
My husband and I built our family through adoption from foster care, then–to everyone’s shock and surprise–had one biological child. We have been advocating for the needs of our adoptive children for almost a decade through some very difficult experiences, as they all have varying disabilities. We have noticed how many times a service is recommended to us, but it does not yet exist. I am so excited to serve on the WLLC board with a mission and vision to bring vocational skills to disabled job seekers, as this is a much needed service in our communities.
What do you bring to the table?
I have been a licensed social worker for 15 years with most of my experience being in the world of community mental health. I have served as a wraparound worker, case manager, therapist, mental health consultant, and day treatment provider (in addition to being a foster and adoptive mom for a decade). Like any good social worker, I am well-connected to resources, and I can advocate in difficult circumstances. I am most excited to share my knowledge of socioemotional development and trauma responsive care to WLLC!
